Formula of Volume of A Pyramid

In mathematics, there are various types of geometrical shapes such as circles, rhombus, parallelograms, squares, and many more. Likewise, a pyramid is also a shape that can be defined as a polyhedron as the sides of a pyramid are manufactured by polygons. We can define the volume of a pyramid as the region of space which is occupied by the sides of it or we can also say that the total number of cubic units that can be filled inside a pyramid is the volume of the pyramid. The mathematical formula given for the volume of the pyramid is ⅓ * b * h where ‘h’ is the height of the pyramid and ‘b’ is denoted as the base of the pyramid. You must remember a point on the restaurant value obtained: the answer is always written in cubic units. As there are different types of pyramids, therefore the formula given is also different for them. In this article, we will try to cover some basic concepts regarding the volume of the pyramid such as properties of the pyramid and some calculations based on it.

Some Calculations Based on the Volume of Pyramid

As mentioned above, the mathematical formula given for the volume of the pyramid is ⅓ * b * h where ‘h’ is the height of the pyramid and ‘b’ is denoted as the base of the pyramid. Let us solve some questions regarding the volume of the pyramid. Some of the examples are mentioned below:

Example 1: Find the volume of the pyramid if the base and height of the pyramid is 2 cm and 3 cm respectively?

Solution: Given that,

The base of the pyramid = 2 cm

Height of the pyramid = 3 cm

Using the formula of volume of pyramid = ⅓ * b * h,

⅓ * 2 * 3 = ⅓ * 6

⅓ * 6 = 2 cm cubic units.

Therefore, the volume of the pyramid for the given base and height is 2 cm cubic units.

Example 2: Calculate the volume of the pyramid if the base and height of the pyramid are 6 cm and 8 cm respectively?

Solution: Given that,

The base of the pyramid = 6 cm

Height of the pyramid = 8 cm

Using the formula of volume of pyramid = ⅓ * b * h,

⅓ * 6 * 8 = ⅓ * 48

⅓ * 48 = 16 cm cubic units.

Therefore, the volume of the pyramid for the given base and height is 16 cm cubic units.

Example 3: Calculate the volume of the pyramid if the base and height of the pyramid are 10 cm and 3 cm respectively?

Solution: Given that,

The base of the pyramid = 10 cm

Height of the pyramid = 3 cm

Using the formula of volume of pyramid = ⅓ * b * h,

⅓ * 10 * 3 = ⅓ * 30

⅓ * 30 = 10 cm cubic units.

Thus, the volume of the pyramid for the given base and height is 10 cm cubic units.

Some Significant Notes to Remember

In this section, we may sum up every point that we have discussed in the above section. Some of the points are:

  • The resultant value is always written as in the cubic units. Refer to Some calculations based on the volume of the pyramid.
  • The sides of the pyramid are made up of polygons. Thus, referred to as polyhedra.
