Physicochemical of Water in Pantal River
Water resources are important in all ecosystems and human development. However, with vast array of human activities and over exploitation of the resources that we have, our natural resources are slowly being polluted, among the resources, that is why it is advised to continually check the conditions of these natural resources among which is our water resource.
Research to analyse the physicochemical characteristics of the water in Pantal River
The research was conducted to analyse the physicochemical characteristics of the water in Pantal River, which includes the analysis of the following parameters:Salinity, Temperature, pH, Biological Oxygen Demand, Dissolved Oxygen, Turbidity, Total Dissolved solids, Amount of Ammonia, Phosphate, Nitrite concentration on the different stations along the stretch of the a fore-mentioned river.
Furthermore, it also determines the significant difference of the physicochemical characteristics of the River within the five stations. Experimental method using random systematicsamplingdesign and Purposive sampling was employed in the study. Random systematic sampling design was used in determining the physicochemical characteristics of the Pantal River while Purposive sampling was used in identifying the stations of the river.
Sample water was collected in the five stations selected by the researcher where station I is located at the Back of the NBI office, Station II is Behind Guadis Elementary School, Station III is behind Dagupan Electric Corporation(DECORP), Station IV is behind Air Solution Emission Center, and Station V is behind Lyceum – Northwestern University General High school Building.
All stations have 100 meters distance between each other. 1 litre water samples which were gathered from different stations were properly gathered and was brought to the Limnology Department of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) in BonuanBinloc, Dagupan City for the identification of the physicochemical characteristics of the water. Data gathered from the experiment was analysed using One-way – Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) as its statistical tool.
Physicochemical parameters
Based on the results given by BFAR, the mean values are found for the physicochemical parameters. (29.06oC) Temperature, (7.9)pH, (4.5 mg/l) Dissolved Oxygen, (26 NTU) Turbidity, (560.20 mg/l) Total hardness, (20.73mg/l) Total suspended Solids,(3.85 mg/l) Biological Oxygen Demand, (0.135mg/L) Phosphate, (0.513 mg/l) Nitrite and (0.22 mg/l) Ammonia are the physicochemical parameters of Pantal river water.ANOVA gave the computed f value as 0.046.
From the ANOVA, it was concluded that there is no significant difference between the physicochemical characteristics of the water within the five stations because results showed that the physicochemical characters are under limit as prescribed by World Health Organization (WHO) and Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) where as others are not. The values do not vary from stations.
